Technical Director – Insulated Metal Panels (Building Materials)

TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

ABOUT THE ROLE: As the Technical Director, you will oversee all aspects related to the compatibility of products and applications, ensuring that Panel Wall & Roofing products meet project specifications across diverse vertical markets. Operating in a dynamic team environment, you will address daily inquiries from the sales team and internal staff, while spearheading the programming for Panel engineering requirements concerning testing and code compliance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitate technical communications with Architects, Specifiers, General Contractors, Installation Contractors, and Project Owners to guide the implementation of Panel products.
  • Maintain clear communication channels with Sales, Marketing, and Operations departments regarding the proper utilization and deployment of product offerings, serving as a technical liaison internally and externally.
  • Conduct preliminary engineering analyses of panels, encompassing structural assessments (wind load, seismic, anchoring, deflections, etc.), environmental considerations (thermal, moisture, etc.), and other application requirements.
  • Analyze and articulate principles of building envelope science, such as vapor, moisture, thermal, and air movement dynamics, effectively conveying these concepts to relevant parties.
  • Develop and adapt installation details for non-standard conditions and contribute to product testing both in-house and in laboratory settings.
  • Lead research and development efforts pertaining to product development, testing, and certification requirements.
  • Update and maintain product specifications as needed, ensuring alignment with industry standards.
  • Maintain regular communication with all internal departments as required to facilitate seamless operations.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in North American building regulations, including structural codes, energy codes, testing, and certification standards.
  • Assist in the preparation of project submittals and establish protocols for obtaining sealed and stamped drawings.
  • Participate in sales calls and on-site visits as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Experience:

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical engineering.
  • Ability to comprehend architectural and structural drawings and specifications.
  • Familiarity with various building façade and fenestration components.
  • Knowledge of building codes and standards (US and Canadian codes).
  • Proficiency in understanding and communicating building science principles.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the building products industry.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD or Revit drawing programs.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.

Other Skills and Requirements:

  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with attention to spelling and grammar.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Willingness to participate in Trade Associations and collaborate with Regulatory Agencies in the best interest of the organization.
  • Flexibility to travel up to 20% of the time.
