Global Manager Commodity Metal, Germany – Automotive

Mackenzie Stuart is working in close partnership with a leading international automotive Tier 1 manufacturer. The company is a leading manufacturer of components for commercial and lightweight vehicles, based in Germany.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead, coordinate and track all work packages in the global metal commodity
  • Train and supervise the work of staff members (resource management and personal development)
  • Yearly Price and saving negotiations with global suppliers
  • Full budget responsibility (yearly 280 Mio EUR purchase volume) for the related commodity
  • Lead optimization projects linked with internal and external partners such as suppliers, sub-suppliers (e.g. surface coating pool, new production process, etc.)
  • Define and implement a global strategy for the metal commodity and align the related activities with the organisations various regions
  • Define and implement battle plans for selected suppliers according to the purchasing and commodity strategy
  • Responsible for global project negotiations (new businesses) and supplier charge back negociations
  • Responsible for global benchmark reviews with international team and global sourcing decision preparation for the global commodity
  • Evaluate bids and make sourcing recommendations and decisions, based on commercial, technical, timing and quality factors
  • Conduct research and benchmark activities to ascertain the best products and suppliers in terms of best value, delivery schedules and quality
  • Supplier Relationship Management for the global commodity
  • Negotiate contracts with suppliers and monitor the quality of performance provided
  • Process payments and invoices
  • Forecast price trends and their impact on future activities


  • Master Degree (e.g. Business and/or mechanical engineering) with international experience
  • Minimum 8 years experience in different Purchasing positions in automotive industry. Management skills and experience are mandatory
  • Fluent in English and German (another language, e.g. Spanish, Chinese is a plus)
  • Ability to manage and develop employees with different skills, qualification and cultural background
  • Process knowhow for various production processes (stamping, assembly, surface treatments, injection molding, cold forming, etc.)
  • Ability to evaluate technical drawings
  • Ability to evaluate process and design improvements and discuss those with cross-functional teams (e.g. PD, QA, Supplier)
  • Analyse and evaluate supplier cost breakdowns
  • Detailed Calculation for single components
  • Strong Negotiation skills also with international scope. Able to use different negotiation strategies and negotiation tools
  • Excellent MS Office (especially MS Excel and MS PowerPoint) skills
  • Strong Intercultural experience (e.g. international studies)
  • Willing to travel frequently to other locations and to suppliers
