Senior Buyer – Building Materials (Lumber)

As part of an expansion, a market leader is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Buyer to join the procurement team and contribute to our continued success.

Position Overview: The Senior Buyer in the Lumber Sector will be responsible for managing the sourcing, procurement, and inventory management of lumber and related materials. This role requires a strong understanding of the building materials industry, market trends, and negotiation skills to secure the best deals for the company while maintaining high-quality standards. The Senior Buyer will collaborate closely with suppliers, internal departments, and leadership to ensure efficient supply chain operations and contribute to the company’s growth objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Sourcing and Supplier Management:
    • Identify and evaluate potential suppliers for lumber and related materials.
    • Negotiate terms, prices, and contracts with suppliers to ensure favorable pricing and terms while maintaining quality standards.
    • Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, monitoring their performance and addressing any issues that may arise.
  2. Procurement and Purchase Orders:
    • Develop and execute procurement strategies to optimize costs, lead times, and inventory levels.
    • Generate purchase orders accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring alignment with inventory needs and production schedules.
  3. Market Analysis and Trend Monitoring:
    • Stay informed about market trends, industry developments, and regulatory changes impacting the lumber sector.
    • Conduct regular market analysis to anticipate potential fluctuations in supply and demand and adjust procurement strategies accordingly.
  4. Inventory Management:
    • Maintain appropriate inventory levels to meet production requirements and customer demands.
    • Collaborate with production and logistics teams to ensure seamless inventory replenishment and timely order fulfillment.
  5. Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Work closely with the operations, sales, and logistics teams to align procurement activities with overall business objectives.
    • Provide insights and recommendations to internal stakeholders regarding inventory, lead times, and market dynamics.
  6. Supplier Performance and Quality:
    • Monitor supplier performance through regular evaluations and audits to ensure compliance with quality and delivery standards.
    • Collaborate with suppliers to address any quality or delivery issues and implement corrective actions.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in procurement or purchasing roles within the building materials industry, with a focus on the lumber sector.
  • Strong knowledge of lumber grades, species, and industry specifications.
  • Proven track record of successful negotiation and supplier management.
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
  • Proficiency in using procurement software and tools.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
